Resources: Three Sites for Teen Writers

Since November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), Teen Services Underground highlighted a few websites with resources for teen writers and we thought we should share them to all you budding teen writers! These sites provides tips, forums, and encouragement for all steps of the writing process. Use these sources to help when you generate your submission for the Henderson Libraries' Teen Writing Contest which will open December 1, 2015. Can't wait to read everyone's submissions and to see you all for our reception in April 2016! For more information, click here.
Happy writing! :)

Figment

Figment is an online community just for teen writers to share their work. Teens can post finished work for others to read, talk with others in the forums, join supportive groups, enter contests, and chat with published YA authors. Figment also has a special section just for educators to use the site in their classrooms or workshops, which would be great for librarians who facilitate writing groups.

Teen Ink

Teen Ink is a long-running (since 1989!) magazine and website that publishes teen writing and art. The print magazine gets distributed to schools, libraries, and bookstores nationwide. The website also publishes teen work and features forums, contests, a summer program guide, and college information. For librarians, they have a library advisory board and a teacher information page for tips on using Teen Ink as a resource.

NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program

The NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program is an offshoot of the NaNoWriMo organization targeted at writers age 17 and younger that allows participants to set "reasonable, yet challenging, individual word-count goals." The site has information for both participants and educators about how to get involved in NaNoWriMo, as well as a forum for young writers to talk and commiserate about the writing process.
