A Look Back: Teen Tech Week

We're looking back at all the awesome programs Henderson Libraries held for 2016's Teen Tech Week!

Saturday, March 5^th – Introduction to video Game Design with TechBrainiacs (Green Valley Library)

This workshop presented by Jeremy Bruner from TechBrainiacs served as an introduction to the world of game design using the Gamestar Mechanic web-based software.

Monday, March 7^th – Mario Kart Tournament (Paseo Verde Library)

Tuesday, March 8^th – 4-Wheel Balloon Cars (Green Valley Library)

Participants built their very own 4-Wheel Balloon Car and tested it against various challenges.

Wednesday, March 9^th – DJing 101 (Gibson Library)

Under the direction of "The Mashup King" teens learned the basics of getting started, as well as how to hook up the equipment and the basic functions of mixing and set building.

Thursday, March 10^th – Life-Sized Board Game: Sorry! (Paseo Verde Library)

Friday, March 11^th – Minecraft LEGO Challenge (Gibson Library)

Using LEGOs, challengers completed a variety of 5 to 10 minute challenges.

Friday, March 11^th – FAC + Super Smash Bros. (Green Valley Library)

Teens played Super Smash Bros. while enjoying some delicious snacks and beverages.

Saturday, March 12^th – Peep Dioramas (Gibson Library)

Patrons constructed fun and creative dioramas out of chick and bunny peeps.

Saturday, March 12^th – Glow in the Dark After-Hours Party (Green Valley Library)

Teens and tweens enjoyed a variety of glow-in-the-dark activities, crafts and games including: a glow-in-the-dark confession wall, tic-tac-glow, twister, neon truth or dare, hide-and-seek and glow paint t-shirts.

The 77th Annual Hunger Games Program!





It's Reaping Day here again at Green Valley Library! All selected Tributes will participate in a series of Hunger Games related activities including a Capitol Parade, training sessions and the final 77th annual Hunger Games competition. Prizes will be rewarded to the top 3 Victors. Snacks and refreshments will also be provided.

Teen Anime Club!

Don't miss out on this month's Teen Anime Club! We will be watching an episode of the hit action/fighting anime Soul Eater!

We will also hold an introductory talk on the art of cosplay. In this Cosplay 101, we will discuss the basics on dressing up as favorite characters: Smart shopping techniques, how to cosplay on a low budget, and determining when and how to DIY costumes.

Steampunk Scavenger Hunt

The thief, Mr. Bell, stole Professor Percy Pickwick's secret journal! He swore to sell it to the highest bidder if it was not recovered by 8:00 on Saturday night! But, thanks to the incredible sleuthing skills of the Green Valley teens, the journal is now safely back with its rightful owner. Good work GV teens!

Age of Chivalry- Las Vegas Rennaissance Faire

"For the 19th year, a medieval kingdom will unveil itself at our new location: Silver Bowl Park with lavishly costumed knights, knaves, fine ladies and wenches as Clark County Parks and Recreation present the annual Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival, Oct. 5 - 7.

Several stages will feature entertainment with costumed performers presenting more than 50 shows per day along with historical re-enactments, jousting tournaments, medieval pageantry and more than 100 artisans – including blacksmiths, stained glass designers, jewelers, wood workers, toy makers, perfume blenders, stone carvers and sword, dagger and armor craftsman -- to demonstrate and sell their wares. Authentic food, from fish and chips to an English feast, also will be available.

Concerts all weekend will feature local acts with nationally known acts as well as a royal parade with kings, queens, warriors and peasants, will take place on Saturday and Sunday."

"Henderson will be celebrating the Twelfth Annual Hispanic International Day Parade.

21 Hispanic Countries were asked to submit a representative of their country to a crowning event that took place in May. The representative crowned that day will be participating in today’s parade.

The parade, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will begin at Ocean and Water and continue down Water Street to Pacific Avenue.

This years parade theme is "Our Returning Troops." Serving as Grand Marshall will be three high ranking servicemen from U.S. Air Force & State Attorney General Catherine Cortez Mastos as the parade's Madrina.

After the parade you will want to stay for the Hispanic International Festival. There will be plenty of food, artists, commercial and sponsor vendors, and an information booth."

Outdoor Picture Show

Wondering what to do on a warm summer evening? Head on over the the District at the Green Valley Ranch Casino for a unique outdoor movie experience! Every Friday and Saturday night (through October!) they will be showing a movie outside on the lawn near Whole Foods Market. Popcorn is provided, but you can bring a blanket and a picnic for a perfect night. Head on over to the District website for more info, and here is the schedule for July and August:
